Baltimore County Executive Proclamation, Designating July 14, 2015 Ride To Freedom Day
WHEREAS, Ride to Freedom is a group of young people representing fifteen different countries who made the commitment to ride from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., to raise awareness and funds to rescue children orphaned through the persecution of Falun Gong in China; and
WHEREAS, Falun Gong is a traditional Chinese spiritual cultivation practice that was banned in China 1999, leaving those who practice it subject to human rights abuses, including the persecution of millions of children; and
WHEREAS, Ride to Freedom participants are demonstrating an unwavering devotion to helping these children by taking this 3,000 mile journey, which today, helps spread their message in Baltimore; and
WHEREAS, the remarkable participants of the Ride to Freedom are setting an outstanding example for people of all ages throughout the world;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kevin Kamenetz, as County Executive of Baltimore County, do hereby proclaim July 14, 2015, as “RIDE TO FREEDOM DAY” in Baltimore County, and do commend this observance to all citizens. Thank you all for your desire to raise awareness and help those in need.
